Dumbo the Flying Elephant
Located in Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom Park
Take the controls and fly as high as you like above Fantasyland.
You Control the Altitude
Two hubs, sixteen elephants, and one lever that is entirely yours. Push it forward and you climb; ease it back and you drop. Everyone rides at their own height, which means no two circuits ever look the same from the ground.
Actual Swing-Arm Kinematics
This one took an embarrassing amount of mathematics. Each elephant is mounted on a real pivoting arm, so as it rises it also swings outward — exactly as a physical swing arm would. Getting the seat to stay level while the arm rotated beneath it was the hardest part, and if you have ever wondered why the park has two Dumbo hubs, the honest answer is that we built the second one because we finally worked out how to do the first one properly.
Who Is It For?
Everyone. It is gentle, it is short, and it is the ride most likely to produce the screenshot you actually keep.
