Space Mountain
Located in Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom Park
A rocket through total darkness on one of two competing tracks. You will not see the turn coming.
Into the Dark
The queue climbs, the lights drop away, and the last thing you see clearly is the loading platform behind you. Then it is just you, the rocket, and whatever the darkness has arranged.
Space Mountain runs two separate tracks — Alpha and Omega — from the same building. They are not mirror images. Ride both, and then argue with your friends about which one is better, which is the correct way to enjoy this attraction.
Built Blind
Designing a coaster you cannot see is a strange exercise. Every crest, dip and turn had to be tuned by feel and by timing rather than by sightline, because the rider will never get a look at the track ahead. What you experience is pacing: the hold before a drop, the sideways swing you did not expect, the moment the track goes quiet.
How Intense Is It?
The park’s most intense ride. Fast, entirely in the dark, with sharp direction changes and no warning before any of them. There are no inversions and no big drops — the thrill is in not being able to see what is coming.
